# Syncing

> When your CRM syncs, how to start a sync yourself, and what a sync changes in CustomerCatalyst.

import { Aside } from '@astrojs/starlight/components';

A sync copies data from your CRM into CustomerCatalyst. It doesn't change anything in your CRM.

## The first import

Right after you connect, the button on the CRM's page reads **Import Customers & Sync**. Click it to bring in everything for the data types that are switched on. Large CRMs can take a while; you can leave the page.

## Every night

After the first import, each connection syncs by itself once a night, between 01:00 and 05:00 UTC. A connection keeps the same time every night.

## Sync now

To sync straight away, open the CRM's page under **Integrations** and click **Sync now**.

- While it runs, the button reads **Syncing...** and each data type shows **Queued** or **Syncing...** with its progress.
- After a sync starts, the next one can start 5 minutes later. Until then you see **Next sync available:** with the time.
- **Last synced** shows when the last sync finished. **Show history** lists earlier syncs.

## What a sync does

- **It reads only what changed.** Each sync asks the CRM for records changed since the last sync.
- **It runs in a fixed order.** Owners are matched to your team first, then customers, then contacts, then calls, meetings, tasks, tickets, notes and opportunities, so every record links to the right customer and people.
- **It creates and updates.** New CRM records are added; changed ones are updated according to your [field mapping](/integrations/field-mapping/).
- **It never deletes or archives.** Deleting or archiving a record in the CRM doesn't remove it from CustomerCatalyst. Archive it in CustomerCatalyst yourself if you no longer need it.
- **It skips what it may not read.** If the connection lacks a permission for a data type, that type is skipped and the rest still sync. Admins see a note to [reconnect](/integrations/hubspot/#missing-permissions-and-reconnecting).

<Aside>
If you delete a synced record in CustomerCatalyst, it comes back the next time it changes in the CRM.

## Customers that aren't imported

A CRM company or organization becomes a customer only if it matches your **Customer status** rule (see [HubSpot](/integrations/hubspot/#choose-which-companies-become-customers) or [Pipedrive](/integrations/pipedrive/#choose-which-organizations-become-customers)). Contacts and activity of a company that isn't imported aren't linked to any customer.

## Health scores

Health scores are recalculated every night from the latest data. See [How scores work](/health-scores/how-scores-work/).
